Challenge

Traffic in Frankfurt am Main is heavily congested – trams in particular lose valuable time at traffic lights. To speed up public transport and promote sustainable mobility, the city launched the MIND+ (“Multimodal, Intelligent, Sustainable, Digital”) project.

The aim is to introduce a modern, digitally networked traffic control system that prioritizes public transport and optimizes traffic flow.

Solution

On a test route (U5 line), traffic light systems are being digitally upgraded and roadside units installed to exchange data between vehicles and traffic lights.
The use of C-ITS (Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems) technologies will create an intelligent control system that regulates traffic according to demand.
Together with the Frankfurt am Main transport company (VGF), this will create a multimodal real-world laboratory called “Cooperative Mobility Frankfurt.”

Okari GmbH supports the project by:
  • Concept development, planning, and tendering
  • Project management and coordination
  • Conducting workshops and meetings
  • Technical support for the Road Traffic Authority

This ensures efficient coordination of implementation and quality assurance in all project phases.

Added value

MIND+ creates an intelligent, environmentally-oriented traffic management system that:

  • accelerates public transport,
  • optimizes traffic flow,
  • reduces waiting times,
  • and paves the way for a smart, connected city.

This makes Frankfurt a pioneer in digital mobility and sustainable urban development.
