Off to Saturn

Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV) as part of mFUND

Traffic in Germany is growing, placing strain on cities and the environment. SATURN develops solutions that digitally collect and transmit traffic management strategies and integrate them into routing services. This reduces traffic jams and makes mobility more environmentally friendly – as tested in Munich, Stuttgart, and Frankfurt. Okari develops the digital transmission and supports implementation in the pilot regions.

Challenge

Traffic management and routing are crucial for sustainable mobility. Traffic congestion and a lack of digital traffic data—especially in rural areas—make efficient and environmentally friendly traffic flows difficult. Navigation systems are often unable to offer optimal route suggestions, leading to traffic jams and longer travel times.

Solution

Traffic management and routing are crucial for sustainable mobility. Traffic congestion and a lack of digital traffic data—especially in rural areas—make efficient and environmentally friendly traffic flows difficult. Navigation systems are often unable to offer optimal route suggestions, leading to traffic jams and longer travel times.

Okari GmbH is supporting the project by:
  • Development and coordination of dynamic traffic management strategies in the local authorities of the pilot areas.
  • Determination of relevant data for the ITS value chain from the perspective of the Delegated Regulation and recording of data processing tools in rural and urban municipalities.
  • Recording of ITS reference architecture requirements for the pilot areas.
  • Business model for ITS processes and guidelines for the digitization of traffic data
  • Quality assurance of construction site information in the Munich-Oberland pilot area

Added value

SATURN provides navigation system providers with up-to-date, locally adapted route suggestions. This leads to less congestion, shorter travel times, and more environmentally friendly traffic. Mobilithek serves as a central hub for traffic and mobility data.
