Delivery traffic in the Berchtesgadener Land region is set to become more sustainable: micro-depots could temporarily store parcels and make the last mile environmentally friendly by using cargo bikes, electric vehicles, or walking. Okari is conducting a feasibility study, analyzing requirements, and developing viable solutions for local authorities and retailers.
Challenge
Growing flows of goods and dense freight traffic lead to congestion, poor air quality, and noise pollution in large and small city centers. Historically developed urban structures hinder smooth delivery processes and cause crowded streets. At the same time, demands for environmental sustainability and quality of life are increasing. Local authorities are looking for solutions that relieve the burden on existing infrastructure, enable low-emission delivery, and thus make public spaces more attractive. The challenge is to combine innovative logistics concepts with local conditions and needs.
Solution
Okari is conducting a feasibility study to analyze the potential of micro-depots for the urban distribution of courier, express, and parcel services. By using alternative means of transport to vans or trucks and consolidating shipments, delivery processes become more efficient, lower in emissions, and more flexible. Scientific support guarantees sustainable and scalable implementation.
Okari GmbH is supporting the project by:
- Project management and control
- Conducting expert interviews to determine requirements
- Developing realistic scenarios and economically viable concepts
Added value
The feasibility study provides the municipality with a sound basis for decision-making regarding the introduction of micro-depots. It demonstrates in a practical manner how sustainable logistics concepts can contribute to reducing urban traffic, lowering emissions, and improving the quality of life in public spaces. At the same time, economic and legal conditions are evaluated transparently. This enables the municipality to implement future-oriented measures in a targeted manner, take advantage of funding opportunities, and position itself as a pioneer for innovative, livable urban development.
